About Romy Maguire
I am currently a Psychology student at Queen’s University Belfast with a strong passion for supporting young people in both academic and personal development. I have always enjoyed working with children and teenagers, and throughout my studies and volunteering I have developed valuable experience helping young learners build confidence and reach their full potential.
I have volunteered in local primary schools, assisting teachers during lessons and providing additional support to pupils where needed. I also worked as a classroom assistant, gaining first-hand experience of the classroom environment and developing practical skills in supporting children with their learning. This experience allowed me to recognise teaching strategies that work best for individual pupils.
Alongside my academic experience, I have spent the last four summers working on youth sailing programmes, teaching children how to sail. This role has strengthened my ability to communicate clearly, build trust with young people, and create a fun, supportive learning environment where children feel confident to try new things and develop their skills.
My long-term goal is to become an Educational Psychologist, helping young people access the support they need to succeed both inside and outside the classroom. This passion shapes my approach to tutoring: I believe every child has unique strengths, and learning should focus on building confidence as well as improving areas that need development.
I aim to create a positive and encouraging environment where pupils feel comfortable, motivated, and supported. I understand that progress is not always linear, and I work closely with each student to develop an individual learning plan tailored to their needs, goals, and interests. By making learning engaging and enjoyable, I strive to help every pupil grow in confidence, improve their schoolwork, and achieve their full potential.
